Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Frankenstein PS3?

It’s a fat PS3 rebuilt with a cooler-running 40nm RSX graphics chip and new capacitors so it stops dying from the Yellow Light of Death. Read the full explanation.

Which PS3 models do you work on?

The mail-in Frankenstein service is for backward-compatible fat models: CECHA01, CECHB01, and CECHE01. The model number is on the label on the back of the console. If you’re unsure, contact me before shipping.

How long does a mail-in repair take?

Turnaround is within one week once I receive your console, plus shipping time each way.

Is Blu-ray drive repair included?

No. Blu-ray drive repair isn’t part of the standard mail-in service. You can add it for $100 when you check out.

How much is shipping? Do you ship internationally?

Shop consoles ship for a flat $30 anywhere in the US. I don’t ship internationally at this time.

What warranty do I get?

Every console and mail-in repair comes with a 12-month warranty. The Blu-ray drive laser is covered for 30 days on shop consoles, and on mail-in repairs that include Blu-ray drive repair. See the Return & Warranty Policy for full details.

Can I return a console?

All sales are final, but if something goes wrong it’s covered by the warranty. I’ll repair it; you pay shipping to send it to me, and I cover shipping back.

Will my console look exactly like the photos?

The motherboard work is identical on every console. The only difference may be the condition of the top shell. These consoles are nearly 20 years old, so minor scratches are normal, and I can’t hand-pick shells. You can buy a new top shell at www.delidtool.com.

What comes with a console from the shop?

Just the console. Controllers, cables, and other peripherals aren’t included. It ships with its original hard drive, which I recommend replacing since these drives are nearly 20 years old.

How can I pay?

Checkout accepts credit and debit cards, PayPal, and Venmo.
